Tamara Sutherland
Tamara Sutherland manages to balance a busy career with home life as a wife and mother of a toddler while finding time to devote countless hours towards two separate community organizations she remains very committed towards.
Tamara is a member of the Board of Directors for “It’s a Dogs Life” foster network. According to Tamara, this group came to be in 2008 as a result of the OSPCA closing its local shelter. Unwilling to accept the inevitable result of seeing countless dogs being euthanized, several caring individuals started “It’s a Dogs Life”. The principals guiding this organization involve establishing foster care for homeless and abandoned dogs as an alternative where adoption into a loving home is the ultimate goal. Each dog in its care is subject to a rigorous health inspection by the professionals of the Kenora Veterinary Clinic. Before permanent placement (through an adoption process), all dogs in care receive their vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. There are approximately ten full time members and several active foster homes involved in this program. The group received full registered charity status and has several fund-raising initiatives throughout the year including the upcoming April social applicably named “Hair of the Dog”, the annual walk-a-dogathon in September, as well as multiple Saturday “Meet the Hounds” events.
Since 2003, Tamara also volunteers time with the “Cat Shelter” under direction of founder Celynn Alcock. At any given time, anywhere from eighty to one hundred cats call this shelter home. Tamara is one of approximately twenty volunteers who assist Celynn with the daily care and upkeep of this facility and its furry residents. The organization relies on the generosity of the community for sustainability. Before adoption, all cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and micro-chipped. The Kenora Veterinary Clinic works very closely with the efforts of the Cat Shelter.
There you have it; one terrific technician with two very worthy causes! KMTS remains very proud of Tamara with her dedication to our community.
