Wireless Voicemail Changes
We are making changes to our wireless voicemail feature. You will experience some minor changes to voicemail. There will be a short interruption while we make this upgrade; we will remind you of the interruption with a series of broadcast voicemail messages in the days before it occurs. We will also keep this web page up-to-date with the latest details.
What is Not Changing
Most of the functions of your voicemail feature will not change. Examples of things that will be staying the same include:
- The number of messages that you can store and the length of the messages that people leave you will not change
- The major options that you use every day will stay the same. For example:
- Press 1 to review messages
- Press 2 to send a message
- Press 4 for personal options
- Press * to exit
- Press 3 to fast forward while listening to a message
- Press 4 to replay a message after listening to it
- Press 7 to erase a message
- Press 8 to reply to a message
- Press 9 to save your message
Changes to Expect
- A different voice announcing the menu options.
- A small number of new menu options. For example, if you are a Wireless Mini Mail or Micro Mail customer, you will now enjoy the Distribution List option. You will have the ability to create one group containing up to 5 KMTS voicemail subscribers. View the distribution list instructions
- Instead of checking to see if a message was delivered, you will receive notification of when the message is received.
- New administrative options to control date and time playback, and to set messages to automatically play when you access your voicemail.
- Your one-touch access to voicemail from your cell phone or smartphone will continue to work. Most people use their speed dial #1 key to access voicemail.
- Some people have also programmed their voicemail password into this key, letting them access their voicemail without separately entering their password. For security, this option will not be available after the upgrade. Your one-touch access to voicemail will take you to your mailbox, where you will then be asked for your password. If you don’t want to enter your password when accessing voicemail from your wireless device, you can manually activate the “Skip password” feature from your mailbox. Forgotten your password after years of not needing to enter it? Get the instructions on how to retrieve it.
- There will be a few settings that will not be moved to the new system, including distribution lists and outcall notifications. You can update these settings yourself once the move is complete. If you have a saved extended absence greeting that is not being used between September 14 and September 17, this will not be moved to the new system. If you have an extended absence greeting active between September 14 and September 17, this will be moved as your personal greeting.
These changes will also give you the ability to forward and send your messages between any KMTS voicemail account – wireless (cell or smartphone), Call Answer (your home phone KMTS voicemail), or MessageManager™ (your business phone KMTS voicemail). This new functionality will be available once we have made upgrades to the wireless, MessageManager, and Call Answer features. We will update this page with the exact dates once they are available, so check back often.
Here is a diagram showing all the voicemail options. Please download this PDF and print it out for your records.
How does this affect me?
- You will not lose any messages as a result of our planned changes.
- There will be a short service interruption while the upgrade is made
- The first few times you access your voicemail you will need to listen carefully to the options, as some will be new
- Please avoid making changes to your password, name, and personal greeting. Any changes made will be lost.
- Please listen to your greeting and recorded name. If you made any changes they will be lost, you will need to re-record your changes.
