Setting Windows XP to Automatic DNS
This is a set of instructions on how to set your DNS numbers to an automatic configuration.
1. First click on the “Start” button, locate and select “Control Panel”. If you notice an option on the left panel that says “Switch to” “Classic View”, select it.
2. Go into the “Network Connections” folder, right click your dial up icon, it may say “KMTS” or “Voyageur” and left click it.

Picture 1 (This is an example of what you may see when you first open up “Network Connections”

Picture 2 (This is an example of what you will see when you right click the icon, don’t forget to left click “Properties”).
3. Once you have selected the “Properties” button, you should now see a picture like this: (picture 3), Now select the “Networking” tab.

4. Highlight “Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)” and select “Properties”. (Picture 4)
5. You may now see a screen that looks like Picture 5, you will notice numbers at the bottom next to “Preferred DNS server”, if you do not see any numbers at all, you are already done!, no configuration needed, just select “Cancel” till you are out of the current screens (if you have been setup in the last year or two, you will most likely not have these numbers).

6. Now select “Obtain DNS server address automatically” you will notice the numbers are now grey like the picture above, this is what you want. Now select “OK” till you cannot click “OK” any longer, and your done!
