Windows 98 2nd edition/ME/Win2000 Dial-up Setup
The following set of detailed instructions will walk you through the process of connecting to KMTS in any of our dial-up locations.
First step is to click on the “My Computer” icon, (Picture 1), which is at the top, left hand side of your desktop.

You will now be presented with a new window. In this window you will see a folder called “Control Panel” (Picture 2), double click that as well.

You will now see the “Internet Properties” box (Picture 4), (incidentally this is where you can set your homepage), under the general tab, you will see the word “address”. Put in whatever suits your needs, for example www.kmts.ca (KMTS’s home page), then select apply when you have typed in your favorite URL.
Now select the “Connections” tab at the top. (Picture 5)

Now where you see the word “Setup”, select that button. Once you have selected that button, a new screen will come up showing you three preferences, (Picture 6) select the 3rd option, (choose this option as well if you are using our High Speed DSL service), then hit the “Next” button.

If you connect to KMTS through a dial-up connection (modem), then leave it on the default selection (Picture 7), which is: “I connect through a phone line and modem”, then select “Next”.
If you connect through our high speed DSL service you would select “I connect through a local area network (LAN), then hit the “Next” button.
For our “Dial-up” customers, you will now see a screen that has a box to type in a telephone number. (Picture
In that space, enter 467-5600. Where it says “Use area code and dialing rules”, click the box to uncheck the checkmark beside it. If you have call waiting, you can disable it while you are online by putting *70 (for example you would then have *70,467-5600), this will prevent you from getting disconnected when people call you. Now hit Next.

In the next window, (Picture 9) enter your “User name”, for example if your e-mail address is jdoe@kmts.ca then your user name is jdoe. Ensure that you are not using capitals or spaces. Now click in the field that says “Password”. This is the password that you have selected when you set-up your account. Now select the “Next” button.

You will now see a box that has the title to your connection. (Picture 10) Remove what it says, (for example, it may say “connection to 467-5600”), and replace it with “KMTS”, then select next.

Once you have selected the “Next” button, the “Connection Wizard” will ask if you want to set up an e-mail account, (Picture 11) if you wish to, then select “Yes”, if not then select “No”.
If you have selected “No”, skip to Picture 16.
If you chose yes to setting up a mail connection you will now see a screen where you will need to type in your real name or organization’s name. (Picture 12) select the “Next” button.

Press on the “Connect” button and once all the noise from the modem has cleared, it will say “verifying user name and password”.
