Windows XP Dial-up Setup
- First go to the “Start” button at the bottom left of your screen, then look for “Control Panel”, click on it.
- Now that you are in “Control Panel” you will see some icons. Select “Classic View” and you will now see an icon called “Internet Options”. Once you have double clicked that icon you will open up to a window with tabs at the top. Under the general tab you will see “Home Page” or “Start Page”. In that window, back space the page that is there and type in www.kmts.ca . Now hit “Apply”.
- Now click on the connections tab and select “Setup” to the right. You will now open up to a welcome screen that briefly describes what you are going to do. Simply hit “Next”.
- There are 4 options in this new screen. Select “Connect to the Internet” and hit “Next”.
- Select “Setup my connection manually”, then hit “Next”. Select “Dial up modem” and hit “Next”.
- You are now going to be asked to name the ISP you wish to connect to. Type in KMTS and hit “Next”.
- Type in the phone number for KMTS, in Kenora and surrounding areas use 467-5600. If you have call waiting on your line that you are going to be connecting through, put in *70,xxx-xxxx, for example: *70,467-5600. Then hit “Next”.
- Now you are being prompted for your user name and password. If for example your email address is joe@kmts.ca you would type joe for the user name. Now type in your password and retype it again in the bottom window, click on “Next”. Be sure to enter the user name and password in lower case, no capitols.
- Congratulations!! You have now finished the first part of the setup. Please put a checkmark in “add shortcut to desktop” and hit “finish”.
- Double click the “Short cut to KMTS” icon that’s on your desktop. You should see your user name and password. Your password will be in little x’s, that’s ok. Now hit “Dial” and when your connected go open up “Internet Explorer” and you should be surfing.
- To set up your mail go to Start/Programs/Outlook Express” and follow the second sheet that is provided.
